Making Space for Mindful Decision Making

By breakthroughperspectives | April 15, 2026

by Odilia McLeod

I remember looking at my calendar week after week and realizing 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗻𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸.

Every hour was booked, back-to-back meetings, calls, email and Slack messages in between. I was constantly moving from one conversation to the next, with little or no dedicated time to fully process it all. Skimming content and reacting in real time just to stay caught up.

That’s when something became very clear to me:

𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆.

In my work with corporate professionals, and in my own experience inside fast-paced environments, one pattern shows up repeatedly:

We aren’t lacking information or ambition. What’s often missing is the mental space to actually process any of it.

Life moves at a relentless pace where 𝘄𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

And in that rhythm, I’ve seen how easily thinking gets replaced by reacting.

It often brings me back to earlier philosophical traditions, when thinkers had the time and silence to sit with ideas long enough for clarity to form. Not because life was easier, but because 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸.

That kind of space is far less common today. And that’s exactly why it’s more valuable than ever.

We need better processing and the space to:
• hear our own reasoning without interruption
• challenge assumptions we’ve stopped questioning
• articulate what we actually want, not what’s simply expected of us

Because clarity doesn’t come from accumulation.
It comes from integration.

In the absence of clarity and mindful space, 𝗜 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝘀𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁…𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹.

So I keep coming back to this question:
Am I adding more to my life, or am I 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗼𝘁 without ever creating the space to actually step back and think about where it’s all heading?

Because what shifts when I do that isn’t just clarity: 𝗜𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
