Today is The Day to Get IT Done!

by Odilia McLeod
Somehow we spend a lot of our lives believing we have time. Deferring important people and actions that will most positively impact our lives to the next day, to next week, to some other time.
There will always be something demanding your attention keeping you from what truly matters. And one day, it will be your last day and have you wondered how many things will be left unsaid and undone in your life?
As cliché-ish as it is, it is true: all we have is today! The one sure thing is this moment. And of course you cannot go through life in fear of this being your last day on this Earth, but you can use that “feeling of uncertainty” to move into action. Like making sure you say “I love you” to those you love every single day, calling your parents often to see how they are, reconnecting with that old friend, spending quality time with your children, or doing that “thing” you always wanted to do: like rock climb, learn to speak French, take a sculpting class, go on the vacation of a lifetime, drink more water, exercise regularly, make better food choices.
Truly live your life every day and be fully present through your journey. Savoring the fact you are here, and you still have the opportunity to show those you care about just how much they mean to you. You still have the chance to get things back on track, be it your health, your relationships, or your career.
Every day: make a difference, make your mark, show that your presence here is a powerful and positive force.
This is a reminder to take a look at all of what you have not said and all you have not done, and to not waste one more minute deferring it to some other time. Make space to focus more on what truly matters and less on what competes for your attention.
Busy does not equal productive or effective or even meaningful. Work is your livelihood not your life. And please stop waiting for the X project to be done, and the Y thing to come to fruition, and for the stars to align in order to move forward. THIS moment is here, is yours, don’t waste it.
If this was indeed your last day, what should your last words be on your way out the door in the morning? What should your actions speak about the person you are and how you move through this world?
Write out a list of the top 10 things you want to say or do. And don’t waste another minute, take action! You’ll be glad you did.
